NFL

Over the past few years, the NFL has shown a greater interest in the health and safety of its professional athletes. In July 2011, 75 retired NFL players formed a lawsuit against the league as well as the teams official helmet maker, Riddell. The claim states that after suffering several concussions during their careers, the players are now experiencing long-term symptoms, including memory loss,...

The NFL Combine in Review

To the common eye, the National Football League (NFL) Scouting Combine may look like nothing more than a bunch of unnecessarily huge men running really fast. Most people see athletes in really tight shirts and shorts who have biceps that are bigger than the average human being.

The NFL season may still be young, but it is never too early to pick possible postseason favorites. Here are the five teams destined for greatness this season.

NFL Week 5 Preview

Expect the unexpected. As cliché as it may sound, the age-old phrase aptly summarizes the first four weeks of the 2010 season. The Indianapolis Colts, a team picked by countless experts to return to the Super Bowl, sit at a mediocre 2-2.

NFL Week 4 Preview

Three games are certainly not enough to form an accurate judgment on an NFL franchise in the grind that is the 16-game regular season. Three games do give a glimpse of a team’s strengths and weaknesses, however. The first three games of this season make it quite clear that the Pittsburgh Steelers are no slouch.

NFL Week 3 Preview

In the first two weeks of the 2010 NFL regular season there has been no shortage of surprises. The Houston Texans are 2-0, while the Dallas Cowboys, “America’s [self-prescribed] Team,” sit at an impatient 0-2. Elsewhere in the NFC East, the Philadelphia Eagles have already swapped quarterbacks, continuing the team’s recent tradition of pseudo-loyalty to its signal callers.

NFL Week 2 Preview

In the first two weeks of the 2010 NFL regular season there has been no shortage of surprises. NFL Week 1 Preview

As I watched this past weekend’s NFL action here are some story lines that
caught my eye.

1 . The AFC East is a Three Horse Race

When the experts debate the likely winner of the AFC East, the discussion
is usually limited to the New York Jets and the New England Patriots. But it
appears as if the time has come to add the Miami Dolphins to the list following
their 2-0 start.

Will Ingram Reverse the Heisman Curse?

University of Alabama running back Mark Ingram buried his face in his hands, overwhelmed after being announced as the recipient of the 2009 Heisman Trophy. He approached the podium on stage with tears flowing from his dark brown eyes after being recognized as the best college football player in the nation.

Roger Goodell's Uneven Hand - Pacman Jones' suspension

When news broke a couple weeks back that Dallas Cowboys Corner Back Adam 'Pacman' Jones got in a scuffle with...one of his own security guards I was slightly confused, and unfortunately not that surprised. But when news broke that NFL Comissioner Roger Goodell just suspended Adam Jones for at least four games, I was shocked.First off, isn't the Dallas Cowboys' hired security guard supposed to prevent Jones from getting into situations like this? That's this guy's job, protect Adam Jones, not fight him. Second, where were Jones' teammates during this? They were at a hotel, they had hired bodyguards, they were 'allegedly drunk,' which means hammered. Pacman was the only guy getting rowdy? Come on. Third, where's the arrest? Jones clearly was not acting in the most decent of manners. But how many of his peers were? This isn't the best argument, but it's a valid one: How many professional athletes get drunk, out of hand, and have the cops called on them every week? We'll never know. But search online for nearly any prominent young athlete and there's pictures of them getting sloppy at the bars. Is Adam Jones a model upstanding citizen? Not from what I've seen. Is he a convicted felon and "what's wrong with the NFL?" Not entirely, there are a number of people "just as bad" as him, if not worse. Is Commissioner Goodell making an example out of Jones, because he's an easy target and the media loves to flash those mug shots of him chewing on plastic? I'm leaning towards yes.Why not deal with serious problems, like Indiannapolis Colts Wide Receiver Marvin Harrison (not suspended) who is linked, but not convicted of a shooting outside his bar, with his gun, with a guy he was quarreling with earlier in the night?Mr. Goodell, the powerful ruling hand has to act evenly.
