Fun. is back with a brand new 2012 release album, Some Nights. Their first album, Aim & Ignite, was released in 2009 with a burst of bright piano rock songs about pretty girls and roman candles. Although there was a long break between these two albums, the lead singer, Nate Ruess, voice could still be found in a different place— old albums by The Format, who haven't been together since 2008....

Dubstep Invasion

The up-and-coming genre, dubstep, has been lighting up the modern music industry like wild fire, although the earliest dubstep releases date back to 1998. Dubstep is a unique style of music that breaks free from the restraints of most modern styles. If asked a few years ago what dubstep was, many people would have been clueless.

Rossen perfects creepy folk sound with new EP release

There is truly no one else in indie music — or in the music industry as a whole — that sounds like Daniel Rossen. He has mastered a kind of eerie, gothic style of acoustic folk that diffuses into the darkest corners of our minds and shakes us like a brisk autumn gust.

What Genre?

How do we define a musical genre today in a world of technology, musical evolution and overlap? Simple genres of the past – rock, blues, folk, pop and jazz -- are harder to define than ever and increasingly difficult to distinguish from one another.

Talent vs. Humor: Grammys 2012

The Grammys is often one of the most entertaining award shows on TV, and 2012 did not disappoint. From the awards ceremony wardrobe malfunctions to the crazy red carpet stunts, the Grammys had it all this year.

The Beauty of Film Scores

The Artist, this year’s Oscar winner for best picture, is usually described as a silent film (or ‘mostly silent,’ because of Jean Dujardin’s spoken words in the closing shot). What sometimes remains mostly silent in the discussion of the film is its music: not just a companion to the film, as so many original scores are, but one of the stars.

Maino's Tomorrow Has Arrived

In a year that featured the Beijing Olympic Games and the election of Barack Obama, Maino was the forgotten feel good story of 2008. At the age of 29, after serving a ten-year prison sentence, Maino dropped If Tomorrow Comes... and quickly made the climb to the top of the hip-hop world.

Cake Album Falls Short of Potential

Cake doesn’t find itself on the top of the pop charts too often, but it’s not because they aren’t talented. This alt rock quintet blends jazz, funk and occasionally bluegrass or country all while singing about whatever the hell they want. Not only that, but lead vocalist John McCrea’s sardonic drawl infuses irony into just about any subject.

The Swingin' Sounds of London Town

Hiya, readers! It's been entirely too long, and for that I profusely apologize. I've had a busy, dynamic, stressful and mostly wonderful year so far. I hope that you all can say the same (minus the stress part, of course), and that you're as ready as I am to get back down to this business of music news.

Brooklyn duo begins tour with crazy dance party in Syracuse

Matt & Kim aren’t more than a simple keyboard and drum kit combo, and that’s quite all right. The Brooklyn duo delivered an energy-packed set with an incendiary sound and huge smiles during their tour opener at Syracuse’s Westcott Theater Wednesday, September 15.
