Getting to Class on a Sunny Day

After the cold, grueling winter that Ithaca students suffer through, even the slightest ray of sunshine is enough to lure the entire campus outdoors. A warm day on Ithaca campus is comparable to the stereotypical college image: students soaking up the rays and laying out in the grass, playing games and flying kites. This rare warm weather makes it an extremely arduous task for students to leave the beautiful outdoors and go inside, especially when friends are outside enjoying themselves. However, there are a few simple tricks every student can utilize in order to get themselves to class on these beautiful days.

Check the weather in advance, and take note of the nice days during the week. Focus on studying and homework the night before the nice day, so that you can spend most of the day outside. Without having to go inside to do work, there will be more time to be outside and not feel so guilty about attending class. After all, there are twenty-four hours in a day, fifty minutes inside isn’t going to kill you.

Plan a trip to the beautiful gorges with friends! Compare schedules, and find a time that works for everyone. Knowing that you have a fun trip planned after class will give you something to look forward to while stuck indoors. Make your trip to Ithaca Falls, a 150 ft. cascading waterfall plunging into Cayuga Lake or take a visit to Buttermilk Falls where you can enjoy a dip in the swimming area. When you have something to look forward too it can brighten even the drabbest days.

Make a summer countdown! You have three whole months of summer ahead to soak up the sun and relax outside.

Remember, missing class can certainly affect your grade and cause you to fall behind. That extra hour outside is certainly not worth the extra time you’ll spend in the library catching up on what you’ve missed. There will be many days that you will not feel like attending class, but don’t make it a habit! The more you skip as the weather gets nice, the harder it will become to make yourself go in the future. Also, neglecting to show up to work could leave you without a job.
