Close Your Eyes
I am standing on the edge, gritty dirt and rocky pebbles beneath my toes. A cool breeze toys with the loose strands of my hair and the suns rays warm my exposed tanned skin. I look down; the green and blue tinted water awaits me, a welcoming blanket of refreshing coolness.
I am standing fifty feet above water level, about to leap into a complete unknown.

Taking that first step, whether it's jumping off the side of a cliff, starting a new job or going to your first day of college is a challenge. It's frightening to enter a new chapter in our lives rather than turn back the pages and remain where we are most comfortable. For many of us the big changes in our lives are about to happen. We’re preparing to embark on a semester abroad in Los Angeles, London or Australia. Some of us are only a short six weeks from graduation; others are taking their first steps into college life as freshman. No matter what new chapter in our lives we’re about to turn into, it’s important to remember one thing: do not be afraid. Take chances and learn. Learn through your victories and learn through your mistakes.
You only live once; one lifetime to do everything you’ve ever wanted to. Why not take a chance?
Get involved in the Ithaca community. Build a house with Habitat for Humanity. Volunteer at the local SPCA. Whatever it is you have been dying to do but held your breath because you’re afraid; go do it.
Don’t worry about making friends as a freshman. There are thousands of people on the Ithaca Campus that you’ll meet through work, clubs, classes and your dorm.
Don’t freak out about graduation and getting a job. Just take the leap into full adulthood and know that college has provided you with the courage you need to succeed in whatever you choose to do.
Just take the leap. Leap into the new chapter of your life knowing that your friends and family will always be by your side. Just look around; they’re there.

If I don't jump I will regret it. If I don't jump I will regret it.
I close my eyes and clasp hands with my best friend who is standing next to me on the ledge.
If I do not jump I will regret it.
And I jump.
