Thursday Night TV Substitution

So just read on Entertainment Weekly's website that NBC comedy "Perfect Couples" will be
getting pulled out of the Thursday night line-up early.

A Paul Reiser show is replacing it, which I am embarrassed to admit as a pop culture lover does not mean much to me (for example, I just recently learned what the actual premise of "Mad About You" even was). I'm sure I'll watch it, but for now, I have a small confession....

I kind of liked "Perfect Couples"! (kind of, a little bit). Sure I really only watched it because it was after "Community" and maybe I'm a sucker for any single camera show, but I actually found some of it a little funny. It really just didn't help that it paled in comparison to the gigantic strength of a number of NBC's other Thursday night comedies. It tried a little too hard and had kind of a tired premise ("couples and their friends/family"), but I felt that some of the over-the-top characterizations like Olivia Munn's perfectionist Leigh worked, especially in contrast to the "we are the normal couple" characterization of Julia (Christine Woods) and Dave (Kyle Bornheimer).

Although it's probably telling of the show's current fate that I just had to look up the character name "Dave" and also as someone who can pretty much think of a random quote from a show to make me laugh, I have nothing for "Perfect Couples." Maybe if we'd had a bit more time together, but I can say that I know I did laugh at least a couple times at something (I'm not sure my vague-ness is really helping). It hasn't gotten the official ax yet though so we'll see I suppose. In any case, it looks like I'll be checking out "The Paul Reiser Show" come April.
