That's what it's all about!

You know that warm, gooey feeling you get inside when you do something nice for someone? And how in that moment the world just seems to come together for a second and things seem alright? Imagine having that feeling on a daily basis. Imagine the good that will do YOU, let alone others.

As a college student you are thrust into a world of opportunity. No other period in your life will be as ripe with possibility as right now. Sure, there’s your career path, and your academic pursuits, and all the glory of the good old college days but the opportunity and prospects I’m talking about actually extend beyond those. I’m talking about the opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of others, and in your life.

Giving back is infectious. Once you begin, even in the smallest of ways, you’ll feel that “giver’s high”. You’ll partake in it again. You’ll spread the word to your friends. And before you know it, you’ll feel better – about yourself and the world around you.

All this talk of giving back and making a difference… seems pretty idealistic. But that’s where this blog comes in. I would like to help you, yes YOU, find realistic ways you can help. Some will be minor changes in your daily life, some ways will involve becoming part of a major organization – but I guarantee all will be feasible and worthwhile.

My name is Mallory Moyer. I am a senior Sociology major at Ithaca College and I’m hooked. I’m hooked on the high of helping others. I want you on board. I promise to offer you exciting, life-changing, fun options to make a positive difference in this world… and I’ll try to be less cheesy in future posts. Though, I’m warning you now, I’m a huge cheeseball.

So stay tuned and write to me about your experiences making a difference and helping others at mmoyer1 at ithaca.edu. I want this to be a space of dialogue and inspiration.

On that note, I’ll leave with the words of my childhood hero, Mr. Rogers:

At the center of the universe is a
loving heart that continues to beat
and that wants the best for every person.

Anything we can do to help foster
the intellect and spirit and emotional growth of our fellow human beings, that is our job.

Those of us who have this particular vision must continue against all odds.
Life is for service.

Mallory
