Runway Notes
Welcome to Runway Notes: NY Fashion Week coverage with Shelby Scudder (a recent Imprint-featured designer).
We’re steering clear of the runway-induced, backstage, bitch-fest, and instead opting to get the ‘in’ with our new favorite designer, Shelby Scudder. Shelby will be giving us her insights all week, so stick around.
To get things started—as the shows have only just begun—we thought we’d ask Ms. Scudder a couple questions about this season:
What shows, or designers are you looking forward to seeing? Oh I just love Etro and Pucci, especially since Matthew Williamson began designing it. And for spring they are undeniably thrilling to watch because it’s just an explosion of color and fun! I also love to see what the crazies are doing, like Viktor and Rolf, and Vivienne Westwood, and Junya Watanabe, because they really make you re-think fashion, and re-realize that it is truly an art form. It always makes me excited all over again to be in fashion, and reminds me you can design anything. Anything.
Any trend predictions? Usually in times of economic and political instability, you will see colors become more somber; hemlines drop; and necklines rise. But I do not see that happening. I think everyone will continue to explore possibilities and challenge our expectations of “clothing." I think neckline interest will continue, and colors will run wild again. I think it will be a print-heavy season, but shying away from animal prints that have been so abundant for a number of seasons now.
Join us during the week for Shelby Scudder’s coverage of New York Fashion Week Spring 2009.
