Life Is Wonderful

Life is…

“It takes a thought to make a word and it takes some words to make an action. It takes some work to make it work, it takes some good to make it hurt, it takes some bad for satisfaction. La la la la la la la life is wonderful. Ah la la la la la la life is full circle” -Jason Mraz, “Life Is Wonderful.”

Life. Believe it or not, the first thought that pops in my head at the mention of the word is the sound of Jason’s “Ah la la la la la la life is wonderful” lyric. Maybe that’s because I’m a huge music fan, but I think the real reason is because I heard it repeated about 4,087 times while I was staying at a Hilton. The song was part of their “Travel Takes You Places” promotion.

At first glance (and listen) the lyrics can seem somewhat elementary and you find yourself thinking - how is this really a song? But when you dig deeper into the surface (as we must do over and over again with various thoughts and situations that arise throughout our lives) and study the words and hidden metaphors, you find the underlying truth of what life is; what it encompasses. It seems as if everything we do in our lives is a building block for something else to come that’s usually unforeseen at the moment. We have our moments of joy, frustration, contemplation and laughter. Life is made up of everything from life changing decisions to those random, every day moments and feelings you forget about until you’re finished doing your daily work of what you think makes up your life. (In my case, that includes trying to finish my Journalism BA and speech communications minor while throwing in little things I enjoy to keep myself sane, like trying to write music.)

The point is that you’ll find all of that in this blog, whether it’s earth shattering news, a random thought, or a funny story that happened over the weekend. It might turn out to be a little therapeutic for me and hopefully interesting and reflective for you. Share your comments, suggestions and stories, and enjoy the circle.

I love the song. it shows how ironic life is. but, more than that, the song shows how connected we are from each other..it is amazing how he was able to put up this song. there is sooo much wisdom in it.
