Life Is Picture Perfect?
I must be the only college-aged student who doesn't take pictures at every outing, every holiday, every vacation, etc. My camera is currently broken, but that's beside the point. My mom was famous for taking a slew of pictures of my sister and I (we're twins) during our early years. Then as the years went on, the number of pictures slowly dwindled. I have so many great memories throughout my life and at some point I should have taken my mom's lead...but I didn't.
I spent the past semester in Los Angeles. Thankfully my sister is better at the act of picture taking and I was able to re-live some of those memories through her pictures, but there are other memories I want to remember for myself. This is only of course, one example of many I feel like I have missed out on in this regard.
I know some of you are saying the memories are what's important, forget the pictures, but sometimes pictures can bring back certain memories that we have forgotten about and bring a smile to our face. How is one human being supposed to specifically remember everything they ever experienced all at once? Sometimes it's nice to have reminders...especially of the happy times. Telling the story is one thing, but sometimes it is the pictures that do it justice. We all know how we individually grew throughout our own lives, but usually the real clarity comes when we can go back and add the visuals. It's important to capture the way we were and it's equally important to capture the way we are now. It helps us to compare and make sense of things.
As I glance up at the walls of my bedroom, I'm grateful to the friends who gave me many of the pictures that adorn them, however I wish there were many more to look at... and on a side note I wish I wasn't wearing the same outfit in so many of them (hence the few times throughout the years I actually snapped a few shots.)
