The Cover-Up

By now, everyone has been exposed to the viral infection that is "Friday." It's auto-tuned, catchy, sophorific, and a bunch of other terrible adjectives. So obviously, the covers have been abundant. But this one is different: it was for a good cause. Best Friends for Six Months Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon challenged their audiences that if Jimmy could raise $26,000 for a charity project,...

"You Oughta Know" This Cover

Alanis Morissette was pretty pissed off in the '90s. She had broken up from Full House's Dave Coulier, which is pretty embarrassing. And she was not going to take that sort of rejection sitting down.

The "Landslide" Brought Gavin Rossdale Down

Gavin Rossdale is known for two things, really: being the frontman of grungy band Bush and being married to Gwen Stefani. But he should really be known for his singing, because he's pretty damn good. When he's not belting out "Machinehead" (which, by the way, check out Ithacappella's version, it's fabulous), he's usually singing songs like his solo debut "Love Remains The Same."

"Free Fallin'" Into John Mayer

I admit this up front, I'm more of a fan of the original version of this song. But I also like John Mayer in general, so I'm posting it.

Bruce Springsteen Was "Blinded By The Light"

Sorry about that break, Cover-Uppers, but even bloggers have to take a Fall Break. I decided to make this Monday a tribute to The Boss.

Adam Levine "Fell" Into The Beatles

Let me make this clear. Usually, I'm not a fan of Beatles' covers. I liked "Across the Universe," yes, but that was a rare exception when the cover version didn't suck. They weren't the Beatles, but they were fresh enough to make up for that.

Glen Hansard Plays Justin Timberlake - But Just "Once"

For those who haven't seen the wonderful movie "Once," Glen Hansard is an Irish folk singer and part of the band The Frames. He won an Oscar for Best Original Song, which he shared with then girlfriend/"Once" co-star/folk singing partner Marketa Irglova (they may still be together, I'm not sure). Normally, his songs are heart-wrenching.

Pearl Jam "Reigns O'er" The Who

Happy Friday, Cover-Up readers! I was inspired by the rainy, foggy, and otherwise "crappy" weather we've been having to bring you this fresh little remake.

Obadiah Parker Shakes It Like A Polaroid Picture

Rap is sort of infamous for sampling, and using other people's songs in their own. It's kind of the hip-hop community's version of covering a song: taking something fantastic and then rapping over it. Folk singer Obadiah Parker comes from the more traditional idea of a cover song: where an artist just takes someone else's song and sings it.

Rodrigo y Gabriela y Metallica

I've decided to give everyone a Hump Day treat of TWO Cover-Up posts/songs. And this one is close to my heart.

Mayday Parade: Boys Call Them Sexy

The Pussycat Dolls "When I Grow Up" has been hotly discussed in the last year or so. Not because it's all that great of a song, but because people are still trying to decide whether lead singer Nicole Scherzinger wants to be a star and have "groupies" or "boobies" when she grows up. I'll let you be the judge of that one.
