Media Hyperbole?

Let's all get to pointing fingers: The media is to blame for the failing economy.

In a recent NYTimes article, the idea that our descending economy is partially at the fault of our 24-hour mass media was proposed. Is that possible? Are those always running, always finding a new angle, always analyzing news media outlets actually going so deep into the story that they're exaggerating the issue?

Whether or not America is heading into The Great Depression II is debatable. But what is concrete, is that consumer spending is down for the first time in nearly 20 years. How much of that is actually contributed to media influence? Even if somebody could quantify that figure, it'd never get a story.

On ESPN

Speaking of media exaggeration, the Plaxico Burress suspension has been getting a lot of press. His 1-week hold up is over, and the headlines spew apathy on his part.

Burress was suspended from a 44-6 Giants victory, because he had to take his son to school and missed a meeting. Wouldn't you be apathetic too? Maybe there is a past history of misconduct on his part, sure wasn't a story then though.

Debate II

It's on tonight, and McCain's got some coercing to do. That exaggerating media's been predicting Obama is starting to run away with this thing. I'm just excited to see what happens.
