I Got a (Girl) Named Keisha..
I'll be honest, it's not his best. But I'm ok with that. It's a mixtape, and as far as I'm concerned, mixtapes are meant to be scrappy. Maybe not scrappy, but not perfection. They're fun to listen to, and, Weezy puts his unimitatable touch on the mixtape with the always entertaining dialogue and bazarre analogies.
I've been listening to "Still I Rise" a whole lot. Coincidentally Lil Wayne isn't on this track, it's feautring Nicki Minaj, one of the rising stars on Young Money. She's got an incredibly hard, solid flow, and the beat (I'm assuming by DJ Drama?) is one of the best on the mixtape.
A good friend of mine, DJ Letham, really dislikes what Wayne stands for.
He was working on a paper comparing 50 cent to AZ and put 50 and Weezy on the same page. That's not right. 50 is a punk. Weezy F. Baby is hilarious.
There are of course arguments about Lil Wayne's lyrics. They're mysoginistic. They're vulgar. They're violent. But so it goes. Sinatra was into some sketchy stuff too, and he's widely admired.
What's even better, is his ESPN blog. Outrageously candid, Weezy discusses the players he loves, the ones he doesn't get along with, who isn't getting the attention they deserve, and my personal favorite--his minor life struggles. In the latest blog post, Weezy talks about living in the same building with Dwayne Wade, and wanting to play video games with him, but doesn't know how to go about making the new friend.
The simplicity and ease of personal relation is beautiful.
Quit hating Letham, sometimes we all just want to play video games with the cool kid next door.
Go find the Dedication 3 and listen to it. It's all over the internet.
