End of the World?
Word on the street is the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), located near Geneva, might be ending the world. Really Switzerland? Ending the world? Who would have thought?
A bunch of crazy scientists at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) are trying to find out what the universe is composed of. To do it they built this really, really, really big particle accelerator. It's around 17 miles long, and a 100m deep.
What exactly are they going to do in there?
They're going to strip a bunch of Hydrogen particles down to their nucleus. Accelerate the nuclei to nearly the speed of light, and crash them head on.
The goal is to recreate what happened right after the Big Bang. Hopefully they'll figure out the most basic level of matter. And that would be just fantastic to know.
Really though, there's a smidgen of a chance that they'll create a black hole, sucking the world in on itself, and ending mankind as we know it.
Elsewhere: Shaq announced he's retiring 735 days from today, and I had an egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast.
Yea!
