USAers, get yer guns!

Trigger-happy Americans and their beloved guns – the same weapons that are used to kill nearly 30,000 citizens each year – are probably jumping for joy now that The Supreme Court is seriously considering the extension of second amendment “rights” to state and local levels.

Translation: more guns! More lawsuits! Go team USA!

Yes, the same group of American judges who decided corporations were people with feelings last month is now in the midst of a legal challenge to Chicago’s 28-year-old ban on handguns.

Unfortunately enough, the conservative voice might be the one to prevail here (although those same conservatives who argue for federal rights to a gun will probably tell you it’s up to states to decide who gets married, which is MUCH more dangerous and harmful to children than guns laws at the local level!).

As I’ve said and written before, the notion that the right to own guns in any given household as the most effective means to self-defense is regrettably pervasive in this country and explicitly representative of how we think as a national body: people are scary, people will always resort to violence, and you will always use violence back.

Now, The Supreme Court will simply decide whether or not local areas whose current laws do not affirm the needs of gun-nuts or irrational choices have the right to keep their weapon restrictions on book.

Go ahead, Supreme Court: make our day
