Old People In A Purple Haze
Jimi Hendrix, for lack of a better term, is a guitar god. He can make a Les Paul cry, scream, sing, and do some pretty naughty things with a simple strum. His hit "Purple Haze" was one of the reigning anthems of the 60s for druggies and nons alike, with killer riffs and his gravely voice to match. It was clearly not aimed at the elderly, though.
That didn't stop Massachusetts chorus Young @ Heart from covering the song, though. Covered in the (ab fab) documentary of the same name, Young @ Heart is a chorus made of the elderly, with the average age hovering around 80 years old. Even though they started singing showtunes, the band has expanded into more contemporary fare. I can't embed their versions of Coldplay's "Fix You" or The Ramones' "I Wanna Be Sedated," which are two of the best songs in the movie, so head over to YouTube to check those out. In the meantime, enjoy what "Purple Haze" would sound like if your grandparents sang it.
