Dr. House Does The Beatles
So this isn't a traditional cover. In fact, it hasn't been recorded, and it's not even by an artist that people think of as a "musician" first. Everyone knows the song "Hey Jude," and if they don't, then they need to get on that. It's a classic, it's simple, it's Paul McCartney (my fellow blogger Norah's first love), it's sort of a no-brainer. What you don't know is this: Hugh Laurie covered it.
On his '80s and '90s show, "A Bit of Fry and Laurie," Hugh Laurie was the straight man (both literally and figuratively) to Stephen Fry, and was usually relegated to either that role or being the musician for the show. He's a fantastic pianist, and actually has a decent voice, if you take a trip around YouTube. He had some fun with "Hey Jude" by speeding up a recording of his own voice to get it to Alvin and the Chipmunks pitch, and, well...you decide.
