Cake Will Survive
First she was afraid, she was petrified. Just thinking Cake would cover her song and do a better job.
Gloria Gaynor wasn't known for too many songs in her day. Or now, really. But with her hit "I Will Survive," she gave women everywhere a disco anthem to live by after they had dumped/been dumped by their lover. It was cheesy, synthesized, and perfect for the 70s. Cake decided to update the classic and make it a little grungier, per their style.
With a lazy trumpet, a garage band guitar, and a slacker gritty voice, Cake took a jilted lady song and made it into something completely different.
