2 Live Crew Ruins Roy Orbison
The riff is iconic, the voice is warbling and dirty, the title became a hit Julia Roberts movie, and the song is instantly recognizeable. Roy Orbison's "Pretty Woman" still holds up and has been used all over the place, from television to film to commercials to radio to any other medium employing sound that you can think of. So naturally, it had to be spoofed.
In a song that got them in trouble for copyright infringement - for which they were later acquitted, by the way - 2 Live Crew decided to use the riff and the song as inspiration for their own "Pretty Woman" - an ode to a woman a little less than beautiful. Not as good as "Me So Horny," and certainly not well liked by the PMRC (look it up, kids), but worth mentioning. I noticed the blog has a lack of rap music, so why not?
