Mind Controlled Video Games? I'm in.
I'm a subscriber to Wired Magazine. I like technology and things that are "the future."
They wrote about something that I didn't really think was going to happen anytime soon: Forget your keyboard and mouse, there's a PC game controller that reads your mind. I'll say it again: There's a mind reading video game controller.
Emotiv's EPOC
It was produced by a company called Emotiv. They call it the EPOC, and it's pictured at left.
Presently it works only for PC, and comes with free software that will adapt this 16 sensored mind reading contraption to any PC title.
Tim, my roomate was unsure about having something read his mind. Have my mind read for $300? I think it's fantastic.
El Pueblo Unido
I have so much music these days and no time to listen to it. It was becoming quite upsetting until this past weekend, when I found the inspiration to listen to a lot of the music I have but never get to. Inspiration is code for "there was nothing else to do on Saturday."
Also, I don't know why the post is called El Pueblo Unido...and why should I?
Here's some top picks:
The Felice Brothers
The Felice Brothers - "The Felice Brothers" (2008)
The Felice Brothers self-titled debut album is one of the most original records to come out in 2008. Reminisicent of old 70s rock group, The Band, The Felice Brothers breathe new life into a genre of folk rock that, frankly, just isn't being touched in recent years.
Emily King
Emily King - "East Side Story"(2007)
Emily King's debut album "East Side Story" is fun exploration of an up-and-coming premiere jazz, soul, and R&B singer/songwriter. King's powerful voice and catch soul hooks makes "East Side Story" one of the most pleasant albums I heard throughout the course of my day. It's also currently in my car and will remain there until something can honestly top it.
TV On the RAdio
TV On the Radio - "Dear Science," (2008)
TV On the Radio's most recent album, "Dear Science," is venture into the weird and experimental sound that the band loves to do. While they are not the most cohesive of bands (as in the songs never seem to properly follow each other on the album), they are one of the most innovative bands that I've heard in a long time. "Dear Science" is a prototype for what music can be these days.
Thievery Corporation
Thievery Corporation - "Radio Retaliation" (2008)
TC's latest album was the only album I gave two listen to, back-to-back, just so I could fully observe the madness behind the production duo's sound. IT has no real genre or real area of expertise. That's probably the best way I could describe it. And good. It is infinitely good. Give a listen if you can.
Either way, I'm going to try and listen to a few new albums every night from now on, no matter what I have to do or am doing. Check these albums out if you can. Buy them, or steal them or, God forbid, illegally download them. They might be worth your time.
Birth control v. Viagra
Abortion always has been a hot issue in elections and will continue to be for a while. That's not the issue here. The issue instead is birth control coverage. John McCain has voted repeatedly that health insurance companies should not cover birth control and that no federal funding should ever be used for contraceptives. In 2003, McCain voted against an amendment that would require all health insurance companies to cover birth control (S.Amdt. 258 to S. 3). Additionally, McCain wasn't sure how to respond to questions about insurance companies covering Viagra, but not birth control (Watch it here).
This is a huge issue, both economically and socially. Birth control is expensive. Even with health insurance, it can cost over $180 a year. And without health insurance, you're looking at anywhere from $500 to more that $1200 a year. That's ridiculous. Especially for a young woman trying to make responsible decisions with her life - ie: not getting pregnant while in college. The thought of non-coverage worries me greatly, just as much as abortion views worries right-wing voters.
AbortionMedia Hyperbole?
Let's all get to pointing fingers: The media is to blame for the failing economy.
