Arts and Entertainment

Evil Dead is a perfect example of a movie that fits the stereotype of a typical horror film. It has the coupled teenagers, the cabin in the middle of the woods, the thunderstorms, the creepy basement, the perfectly planned power outage and even that stupid girl that decides it’s a good idea to investigate the dark basement while the whole audience is shouting, “No!” The film is about Mia, who...

Birthday Cake Reunion?

Reports of Chris Brown and Rihanna reuniting have been circulating for months and now the rumors have everyone wondering: what’s next for the couple? The two split in 2009 after Brown was accused of assaulting Rihanna in his Lamborghini. Brown, who was 19 at the time, turned himself in and was arrested by the LAPD.

My Friend Dahmer

Have you ever thought about what a notorious killer was like before they snapped – before they become a figure of the media, and a face in the paper? They had lives; surely they did, before something went wrong.

Hiatus No More

I could be wrong, but I believe the word “hiatus” is derived from the Greek for “excruciating period of time between episodes of a beloved television show.”

What’s that? I am wrong? It must be from Latin, then.

Game Changer

The video game journalism industry has traditionally had three big name sites: GameSpot, IGN, and 1UP. In 2007 Jeff Gerstmann, editorial director at GameSpot, was controversially fired. Rumors swirled that this was because of a game that had been heavily advertised through GameSpot which he gave a negative review to. This threw anyone who followed the site into pure chaos.

Apple's Last Year

It would be hard for Apple to call 2011 anything but a year of success. The iPad 2, iCloud and both iPhone 4 models all contributed to Apple’s growing success as the one of the technological giants on the market. However, among all the gains and profit, Apple lost the man behind many of the company’s revolutionary designs.

"Shame" Review

Shame is the type of movie that makes a person feel like taking a shower after watching. This isn’t a bad thing. Shame is intense -- giving a graphic, NC-17 depiction of the detriment of addiction.

Review: Tower Heist

Tower Heist is one of those movies that looked hilarious in the trailers, but made me a little nervous. I saw the trailer and my first thought was that it could have contained every joke, and the rest of the movie would be terribly flat. Coming across at first as an awkward Ocean’s Eleven/A Fish Called Wanda hybrid, I was pleasantly surprised with the film.

The Guard Review

If you’re short on money and can only see one movie this week, make it The Guard, a black comedy playing at Cinemapolis. The story follows unusual Irish policeman Gerry Boyle (Brendan Gleeson) and straight-laced FBI agent Wendell Everett (Don Cheadle) who team up to find a drug-smuggling ring rumored to be planning a visit to Boyle’s small Gaelic town.

Even the Rain

History has a way of repeating itself and it does so before our very eyes, often with a sense of harsh irony. In Even the Rain (Tambien la Lluvia), Spanish director Icíar Bollaín uses the creation of film, the recalling of what once was, to illuminate the realities of cyclical destruction that occurred during the 2000 Cochabamba Water Wars .
