The Southern Beasts and the Southern Wild

Maybe it’s me, but I’ve noticed that indie films are starting to get big. From movies like my personal favorite, Whale Rider, to recent hit sensation, Moonrise Kingdom, indie directors aim for something Hollywood cannot and that, my friends, is artistic license. Transforming simple plot lines to exotic adventures is what many indie films do best.

Cryptic Canvas

Here lies on the ground a sunset scene
Red hues smeared with the grass green
The sun was close to hugging its horizon deep
But instead hugged an invisible white

He was set to embrace the white hills
So he locked the knob and made the kill
To kill his past would mean future thrills
But instead thrusts him into present freight

He did, not set, but fell head first

My More than Me Mission: Entry 1

“Fingerprints don’t fade from the lives we touch.”

My dream is to touch the lives of girls living in the slums of Liberia. And this week, I am making that dream become a reality.

July 31st

11:14 at State St. and Hudson

I saw you Tuesday at the bus stop,
sitting underneath a tree
that must have been green
before the summer crop
was taken. Hidden by your
bangs you watched a book
write pictures for your eyes.
I watched you from a back seat
waiting for your stop. But when
it came, I must have feared the rain
outside, or you must have enjoyed it,
because the ninety route drove on without your ticket.
